Whaling Nations are poised to take control of the
International Whaling Commission!

Since the inception of the Moratorium on Commercial Whaling,
over 25,000 whales have been slaughtered!!

The Whaling Moratorium is not being enforced!!
Its time to enforce the moratorium!!

Its time to Save the Whales Again!!!

Right now, despite the worldwide moratorium on commercial whaling, Japanese, Norwegian, and Icelandic fisherman are going to kill over 3,000 whales in addition to 20,000 dolphins and porpoises this year selling their meat for profit.

Masayuki Komatsu, Japan's former Fisheries Minister had this to say:
"There are so many whales ...they are the cockroaches of the sea...
At the IWC, we want to aim for the resumption of commercial whaling.

Since 1986, Japan has defied the moratorium by killing thousands of whales under the guise of "lethal scientific research". The IWC does not need scientific information obtained by killing whales and has stated that Japan's scientific whaling data is "not required for management".

Australian Government Minister Robert Hill stated that: "The coincidence of whales ending up in the fish shops in Tokyo would lead some to believe that there were perhaps at least some other motives than just scientific enlightenment ...I think that most people accept that the Japanese wish to hunt whales for commercial purposes and utilize the scientific provision in the Convention as a loophole.

Norway has also defied the commercial whaling moratorium, killing over 500 minke whales per year as well. This year they plan to kill over 1,500 minke whales. The IWC has consistently and repeatedly issued Resolution after Resolution demanding that both Japan and Norway stop, but both countries simply ignore the Resolutions as they have no teeth.
The only way to stop whaling is through political and economic means, but the Bush Administration has failed to act, even though recent polls show that over 75% of Americans oppose whaling and want the US
Government to take action.

Iceland is the latest nation to join the fray..

On August 14, 2003, Iceland joined ranks with Japan as pirate whalers by whaling under the guise of scientific research. In their first whale hunt in over 14 years, Icelandic fisherman slaughtered 36 minke whales claiming the whales were eating too much fish. On October 18, 2006 Iceland announced its intention to resume commercial whaling and to
enegage in the international trade of whale meat.  It then proceeded to kill seven endangered fin whales and one minke whale.  This year it plans to kill another two fin whales and 29 more minke whales
commercially in addition to killing 39 minke whales for 'scientific research'.
.

Now, the Japanese, Norwegian, and Icelandic Governments
are planning to kill even more whales!

At the last IWC meeting, Japan, Norway, and
Iceland announced new self-allocated quotas totaling more than 3,000
whales including endangered species for the upcoming seasons.
Thus far there has been nothing but rhetoric from the Bush Administration,
even though over 75% of Americans are opposed to Whaling and want our
Goverment to take action!

Its time to stop whaling now before its too late!

Its time to save the whales again!!!
